New Space Enhancement (NSE)
We here at SOE understand that Space Combat is far too deep and complex for many people to get into. We do not want this fabulous part of our game to be inaccessable to anyone, so we are revamping the way space combat works. You may now log onto Test Centre to see the following changes that will be pushed live in two weeks. Please note that these changes come after months of focus group analysis. Since we know you'll love it so much, we're already taking any response you give as positive!
-Space has been changed to 2D. No one really liked the third dimension anyways...
-Space Combat is now a turn based system of new, fun filled RPG style combat.
-As part of this new change, you may now inflict status effects on other people's ships, similar to root, poison and knockdown in the ground game. These will be called "Space Root," "Space Poison," and "Space Knockdown." Note that there are no recovery moves for these states planned at this time.
-You may now choose to be one of 5 iconic pilot classes!
-You are now only certified for one ship, depending on which squadron you are in. (ship stats remain unchanged).
-You can no longer change pilot squadrons, except by deleting all of your characters. Yes, every last one of them.
-Deep Space will now be accessible to all pilots immediately upon learning their pilot novice box.
-Forced PvP in Deep Space has been removed.
-Deep Space has been removed.
-Dueling and PvP stations have been removed.
-The player capital ships we introduced with the expansion that was released yesterday will not be usable in the new system.
-Because freelance pilots all put together made up <0.01% of all pilots, they are being removed.
-Added a new capital ship for the Imperials: The Giant Hurt Ball (same type of ship as the Death Star). Imperials get this ship with their novice box and are immediately certified to use it. It is a POB ship, but can be crewed by a single person. This is an attempt to make the game more Star Warsy.
-Added a new capital ship for the rebels: The USS Enterprise. No class is certified to fly this ship. This is an attempt to make the game more Star Treky, since some of our fans were concerned the game was not Star Treky enough. Also, this will make the game less Star Warsy, thus balancing the above change.
-Fixed the windows on POB ships.
-Bugged the windows on all other ships.
-Removed all windows from all ships for balance.
-Added a Mustafar Space Zone. This is a huge advance, because for the first time we have been able to introduce Space-Lava which will damage your ship upon contact.
-Removed the Endor, Yavin IV and Naboo Space Stations. We are working on changing missions that take place in these sectors, but for now consider them bugged. We'll get to fixing them some time after the smuggler revamp...
-You may now unlock your space-Jedi slot by looting Space Holocrons off high-level ships. These will give you a random ground or pilot profession to master. You must master a total of three on one character to unlock your space Jedi. Note the above rules on dropping pilot professions.
-Space Jedi have force powers in space! Yay!
The 5 iconic pilot professions are:
1) Jek Porkins: Flies a low-mass Y-wing. Special Ability: "They came from behind!" (lets others in your group know there are enemies nearby. Causes your ship to self destruct)
2) Biggs Darklighter: Flies a low-mass X-wing. Special Ability: "I can't see him!" (blacks out your screen)
3) DS-61-2: (Vader's Wingman). Flies a regular TIE Fighter. Special Ability: "Look out!" (deals damage to all current group members and reverses their controls. Causes some ships to fly backwards. Causes your ship to self destruct)
4) Han Solo: Flies a YT-1300. Special Abilities: "Dump Cargo." (creates a debris field behind you. Visual effect only) "Special Modifications." (causes random components on your ship to fail when flying. This will require you to get out of the pilot chair and fix them, thus adding a whole new layer of depth to the game)
5) Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader: Flies a Jedi Starfighter and TIE Advanced (with 2 million mass. Each.) Special Ability: "I have you now!" (causes all targets in a 3000m radius to teleport in front of your ship and match your speed. Inflicts "Space Root" status effect for 5 minutes.)
Please note, we have taken careful measures to make sure all of the above professions are balanced. Any posts suggesting otherwise will be immediately locked.
